Advocate for LGBTQ+ Young People: A Guide on How to Be an Active Ally

In partnership with Hopelab, Bard Early College, Centerlink, WeEmbodyLab, and Nebraska Evaluation & Center Research, Born This Way Foundation created a resource guide: Advocate for LGBTQ+ Young People: A Guide on How to Be an Active Ally.

This guide is informed by LGBTQ+ young people and adult experts, and provides the everyday and long-term commitments we can each make to build kind, brave, and inclusive communities.

Why Your Support Matters:

  • More than 1 in 3 LGBTQ+ young people have experienced bullying or teasing online due to their identity
  • 60% report feelings of loneliness
  • Only 1 in 3 have access to spaces that feel very kind or affirming

What You’ll Find in the Guide:

This guide combines research, expert recommendations, and action recommendations from LGBTQ+ young people themselves. Inside, you’ll find:

  • Simple steps you can take this week, like auditing your media, learning LGBTQ+ history, and signaling allyship to show you are a safe space for LGBTQ+ young people in your community.
  • Long-term advocacy efforts you can join to champion LGBTQ+ leadership in your communities, stay strong in the face of disinformation, and change your environments for the better–online and offline.
  • Trusted, vetted resources and partner organizations where you can find even more information and ways you can take action.

Together, we can and will build a world where every young person feels affirmed, celebrated, and supported.
